Bernie Barron dies at 83
Bernie Barron, an old executive at Columbia and Fox, died February. 20 in Palm Springs following a three-year fight with cancer of the lung. He was 83.Barron assisted to pioneer TV broadcasting at WLH television in Cincinnati. After moving to La, he became a member of Pathe Labs, where he ultimately rose to mind of sales. His change to operate in studio procedures started having a stint controlling the recently acquired Chaplin Galleries for American Intl. Pictures. Barron then spent eight years as gm of Columbia Galleries and 14 years at Last Century Fox Corp., where he held positions as senior Vice president of studio procedures, co-chairman of CBS/Fox Galleries, chairman of Western Costume Co., leader of Last Century Fox Certification Corp. and leader of Last Century Fox Marineland.Born in Cincinnati, Bernie began his entertainment career in radio at Ohio Condition U. and labored with Military Radio in their military service throughout the Korean War.He's made it by his wife of 48 years, Ilze two sons a sister a grand son and six nephews and nieces.Donations might be designed to the Movie & Television Fund in order to the nation's Cancer Of The Lung Partnership at Nationallungcancerpartnership.org/donation Contact Variety Staff at news@variety.com
